“It's My World” Wristbands Support Healthy Fish and Clean WatersIn
partnership with the FishAmerica Foundation, Wal-Mart FLW Outdoors
and BP Lubricants USA created the unique “It's My World”
wristbands. The
proceeds from the wristbands help the FishAmerica Foundation
achieve its mission to restore fish habitat in communities across
the United States. Since 2005, the wristbands raised more than
$9,000. FLW Outdoors and its partners have supported many
fisheries around the country. Since 2000, FishAmerica, FLW
Outdoors and the local communities have leveraged nearly $2
million for local conservation and research projects to enhance
our nation’s fisheries. These projects are improving
fisheries habitat and enhancing fish populations through tagging
studies. So far this year, five fisheries have already felt the
benefits of this partnership with more than $33,000 being donated
to local communities along the FLW Tour Trail. The Florida
Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will receive $5,460 to
help restore Lake Okeechobee’s fish habitat nearly destroyed in the
wake of recent hurricanes. Lake Murray in Columbia, South
Carolina will get a boost through a $6,932 to help reestablish
submerged aquatic vegetation along the shoreline. The
Northwest Alabama Resource Conservation and Development Council and
the Lauderdale County Soil and Water Conservation District will
stabilize eroding streambanks in a tributary of Pickwick Lake in
Florence, Alabama with nearly $6,900. The Arkansas Game and Fish
Commission will receive more than $7,000 to place fish habitat
structures throughout Beaver Lake in Rogers, Arkansas. The
Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will receive
$6,850 to restore and stabilize more than 1,300 feet of shoreline
using limestone riprap along one of eight barrier islands in
Kentucky Lake. The funds will leverage Federal Sport Fish
Restoration Funds. Not only will the new riprap restore, protect
and enhance a valuable aquatic ecosystem, it will also provide feeding and staging areas for many sportfish such as bass, crappie and
catfish. Founded in 1989 as Operation Bass and renamed after
Ranger Boats founder, Forrest L. Wood, FLW Outdoors organizes
bass, walleye, kingfish, and redfish tournaments across the
country. For more information, please visit www.flwoutdoors.com.
